In this photo supplied by Mwanga Lodge, Shamva, Zimbabwe, a baby elephant is bottle fed by a carer shortly before falling ill late last month, Jan. Conservationists say round-the-clock efforts to save the elephant, seperated from its mother on a busy highway, have failed. The six-week-olf calf, hand-fed for three weeks, died, apparently from pneumonia. (AP Photo-Mwanga Lodge-Jo-Anne Lamb)
Gordon Putterill is an expert reporter. He reported things on the elephant to let people know about him and how he is doing. He said things like that his shoulders were just 2 feet and 9 inches accross. He said that the elephant gained more than 40 pounds while in human care trying to reach about 200 pounds, he also said " the poor little guy so frail/week."
Where did it take place?
The death of the elephant calf happened in Shamva,Zimbabwe.
On the continent of Africa in the Southern Hemisphere and the Eastern
Hemisphere.
When did it take place?
The death took place in late January 2012, no one said the actual day that the elephant died and when he got pneumonia.
What happened?
How did the 6 week old lone elephant calf die? Well it all started when a herd of elephants was on a highway, when all of a sudden they heard a truck and fled from it. As the herd of elephants fled the 6 week old elephant was left behind and its mom may have been hit by a truck and injured. The people that found the elephant cared for him. They hand feed him gave him bottles and even a name. His name was Kunda wich means Triumph in the local Shona language. After Kunda not having his mother after a few weeks his stomach conditions sapped his strength. The people that found him tried to keep him alive for as long as possible. Even though after three weeks of hand feeding him, giving him bottles, and feeding him specialized soy milk, palm and coconut oil deritaves and nutrients prescribed by top vetrinarians in the eastern and southern African area. He could not be saved and died from pneumnia after three weeks without a mother. Would Kunda have lived if he still ahd a mother or would he have died from pneumonia anyways?
Why did it happen?/How did it happen?
Why-It happened because Kunda was left alone without a mother and baby elephants need their mothers to survive. They need their mother beacuse he needs his mothers food to get antibodies to boost him.
How-it happened beacuse a herd of elephants was traveling near a highway and heard a truck and faled from it. When the elephants fled they left behind the baby elephant and his mother was injured by a truck. So he had no mother to keep him alive and boosted.
Your personal opinion of event.
My personal opinion of the event is that the elephant could of been put with a different mother because he was so young he wouldnt know the difference and mabey could have lived
