Where did it take place?:
The event took place in South Kordofan, Sudan. Kordofan, Sudan is located in the continent of Africa in the Northeastern Hemisphere.
When did the event take place?:
The date of the event happened on January 28, 2012.
What Happened?:
On January, 28, 2012, in South Kordofan, Sudan, rebels in the border region were responsible for the kidnapping of more than two dozen Chinese construction workers. The rebels kidnapped the workers from a camp run by China's Power Construction Corporation in volatile South Kordofan. One worker died in the raid. The Red Cross helped the Chinese government and Sudanese government release the Chinese construction workers. The area where the kidnapping happened, is known for violence. China is Sudan's largest trading partner, while Sudan is China's third-largest trading partner in Africa.
Why did it happen?/How did it happen?
The rebels kidnapped the Chinese workers because they wanted to cause problems with both the Chinese and Sudanese government. It happened because the rebels attacked the camp and captured the Chinese workers. However, eighteen workers in the camp escaped the raid with the help of Sudan People's Liberation Movement - North.
My personal opinion:
I think the rebels were wrong to kidnap the Chinese workers in the first place. The workers were there to get oil from them. If I was the Chinese government, I would not want to trade goods with Sudan because of the kidnapping. With kidnapping and violence, two wrongs never make a right.
